Diana Kapp, author of Girls Who Run the World: 31 CEOs Who Mean Business, inspired scores of Fit Kids supporters with a presentation and book signing Feb. 13 at Menlo Circus Club in Atherton. From the podium, Kapp shared insights from the women profiled in her book, giving the audience ideas on advancing their own ambitions and how to advise their daughters.
Kapp’s presentation included a video message from Sarah Leary, co-founder of Next Door, one of the subjects of Girls Who Run the World. Leary, who helped lead the Harvard University lacrosse team to two national championships, emphasized the role of sports and fitness in preparing her for success as an entrepreneur. She urged viewers to embrace leadership roles and to value being a great teammate.
Kapp delighted the audience with many other anecdotes drawn from her book’s coverage of the CEOs of such companies as Rent the Runway, Stitch Fix, Pop Sugar, Glossier, Minted, Soul Cycle, Embrace, Mitu, Blendoor, Cookhaus, and 23andMe.
During her presentation, a Q&A session, and numerous individual conversations while mingling with attendees, Kapp frequently mentioned several traits shared by the CEOs in her book, such as grit, communications skills, and simply finding ways to get things done. An athlete and sports parent herself, Kapp also explained the importance of sports and fitness in helping instill those traits.
